First Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Excellence Day hosted in India by Werum IT Solutions and Sarla Technologies

Held at ITC Maratha, the event marked a congregation of more than 40 experts from Indian pharmaceutical and life sciences industry. The delegates joined forces to discuss the latest trends in Manufacturing Execution System, current pharma compliance ecosystem and improving manufacturing efficiency.

Global market for pharmaceuticals is booming. The Indian manufacturers enjoy a distinct advantage of low cost of R&D, production and operations vis-à-vis their European or American counterparts. A cash-rich Indian pharmaceutical industry is all set to expand its foothold on global scale. However, upscaling the manufacturing efficiencies and adhering to multiple global Compliance ecosystems like GAMP, EU, FDA, etc. has been a point of great concern.

These were some of the constraints and opportunities that were the talk of the town at Manufacturing Excellence Day. There was a unanimous consensus about the potential that Manufacturing Execution System (MES) offers to address the industry challenges. The actual area of enlightenment for the delegates was along the line of different operational models the organizations incorporated for implementation and rollout of MES.

The event marked a series of marathon sessions conducted by thought leaders from pharma and life sciences industry. Mr. Frank O’Loughlin, CEO, East Pond Consulting, USA shared his experience of implementing Werum’s MES solution across various plants of Amgen in the USA. Mr. Rajesh Thempadiyil, Business Process Excellence and CoE Lead, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories (DRL) spoke about his experience on implementing GAMP-5 for Local manufacturing IT projects at DRL. Mr. Tony Margetts, Ph.D. ISPE & Principal Consultant, FactoryTalk spoke about latest guidance from International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) for the industry on Data Integrity and Electronic Records. MR. Girish Vartak, MES Project Manager at Sandoz India shared his experience of implementing Werum MES solution at their facilities. In a panel discussion the experts debated with the audience on the secrets of how to successfully implement MES.
